Carry Me

Happy Birthday, dear blog!

I launched this blog a year ago, with equal parts excitement and fear. It takes courage to put yourself out there. I remember hitting publish on my first post and immediately regretting it. What had I done?

One year later, I’m still scared. But I’m also surprised. Today, I’m sharing a song with you–one of several that I’ve written in the past few months. Did I imagine I could write songs? No way. And now it’s one of my favorite things to do.

The Spirit never ceases to amaze me.

I’ll write more about all of this one of these days. For now, I want you to know that you can do whatever wild thing you’re thinking about doing. That thing that’s tugging at your heart, but that scares you to death. That thing that keeps whispering in your ear, but that will require vulnerability you’re not sure you can muster. Yes, that thing. You know what it is. You can do it.

Because if it’s the Spirit that’s tugging at your heart and whispering in your ear, then you have all you need to do this thing. Trust me.

Today, as I was plodding along heavily on a snow-covered path, I noticed fallen leaves dancing ahead of me. They seemed weightless, carried by the wind. As I watched them flutter and fly, I yearned to experience that kind of freedom.

Here’s the prayer that arose as I observed those leaves. Maybe it’s your prayer too. You can listen to it here: https://soundcloud.com/stacey-nalean-carlson.

Carry Me

Here I am,

the lamb who went astray.

Here you are,

my shepherd through the fray.

See me home,

rejoicing all the way.

Carry me, O God.

Carry me.

I don’t know where to start.

Carry me.

Hold me to your heart.

Carry me.

Let all this fear depart.

Carry me, O God.

Dancing leaves

spin nimbly in the air,

held aloft

without a weight or care,

calling me

to follow and to dare.

Carry me, O God.

Carry me.

I don’t know where to start.

Carry me.

Hold me to your heart.

Carry me.

Let all this fear depart.

Carry me, O God.

Here I am,

the lamb who went astray.

Here you are,

my shepherd through the fray.

See me home,

rejoicing all the way.

Carry me, O God.
